KUALA LUMPUR – Umno has sent a show-cause letter to Beaufort MP Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin of Sabah over his resignation from all posts in the party and the Barisan Nasional (BN) last Saturday, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.

He said Lajim had 14 days to reply the letter after which Umno would consider action against him as provided for in the party constitution.

“I have sent a show-cause letter to Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin stating why he could not be expelled from Umno in view of his quitting all posts in Umno and the BN on July 28,” he said in a statement.

Lajim had announced he was resigning as an Umno Supreme Council member, Beaufort Umno Division chief and Beaufort BN chairman with immediate effect.

However, he has chosen to remain an Umno member and as the deputy housing and local government minister.

Tengku Adnan said Umno viewed seriously what Lajim had done, particularly his declaration of the setting up of the ‘Pakatan Perubahan Sabah’ or Sabah Reform Front and his close association with the opposition front.

“Clause 20.8 of the Umno Constitution requires all members to, among other things, love the party, obey the constitution and code of ethics, and protect the good name and honour of the party.

“What has happened is an internal issue of a personal nature involving Lajim and certain people in the domestic political arena. It should not be linked with a party that has rendered exceptional service to the nation and people,” he said. – Bernama
