“We’ll make sure Muhyiddin loses in all the seats he contests” – Khaled Nordin
JOHOR BAHRU – Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) will pull out all the stops to ensure that opposition leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin loses in all the seats he contests in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Johor BN chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, said it has been the norm in the election process for a party to aim for total defeat of its opponents.
“Anyone can contest in the elections. Each party also want to ensure its rival’s defeat. The same applies to BN; we want to make sure Muhyiddin loses in all the seats he contests.
“That is all. As much as he wants to ensure my defeat, I am also out to ensure his. We will square off soon,” he told a press conference after officiating a groundbreaking ceremony for the Johor Affordable Homes (RMMJ) in Bandar Seri Alam, on Sunday.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also the Menteri Besar, was commenting on Muhyiddin’s remarks at an event in Gambir, Tangkak on Saturday night, in which the latter hinted that he might contest the Gambir state seat in GE14.
Muhyiuddin, who is also the Pagoh parliamentary seat incumbent, confirmed that he will be contesting a parliamentary seat. However, he did not elaborate on whether that seat would be Pagoh.
In the 13th General Election, Datuk M Asojan of BN won the Gambir seat with a 310-vote majority by beating three challengers – Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed (Pas) and two independent candidates, Mohd Zan Abu and Yunus Mustakim.
Meanwhile, Khaled, on speculation that he could contest both the Pasir Gudang parliamentary seat and the Permas state seat in GE14, said the decision was up to the party leadership.
“I will follow party orders. We should wait for the official announcement or else is it remains mere speculation. The prime minister could be announcing it next week, I don’t know the actual date,” he said.- NST
