KUANTAN  –  The public should not blame the government, whenever a disaster, such as the recent flood, occurs, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said, there were other factors which caused flood, namely, the monsoon season, and global warming, which was currently, a worldwide phenomenon.

“One of the factors causing flood is the monsoon season (which occurs annually) and we find the rainfall to be heavier this season.

“Other elements afflicting the world are global warming and changes in the weather, whereby, it is difficult to interpret the effects of the phenomenon.

“However, according to weather experts, if rain falls, it would be heavier than normal,” he said.

Najib said this at a ceremony to hand over financial aid of RM500 each to 686 families affected by flood, at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang Islamic College here today.

Also present were his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohd Saffian Ismail.

Najib, in the meantime, said the government would endeavour to give the best and help the people tackle the flood situation.

“We cannot blame any party because it warrants global efforts to tackle the problem of weather changes which is yet to be effectively handled by the international community.

“But, as a government, we will endeavour to face the phenomenon and address the flood disaster in the best possible manner,” he said.

He said, the government gave its best to the people with effective management and administration for good economic growth which brought more revenue to the nation.  – Bernama
