US$510,000 Ferrari crashes in Hong Kong; video goes viral

–  A blue Ferrari worth about HK$4 million (US$510,000) crashed into three roadside signs in Aberdeen here while making a turn on Thursday afternoon, with video footage of the incident quickly going viral on social media.

The accident happened at about 2pm, when the sports car turned into Yue Kwong Road from Aberdeen Reservoir Road.

Police said the driver, 36, claimed he was trying to avoid hitting a dog that was crossing the road. The department said that the man passed an alcohol test.

Go Car 2, an online car selling platform, identified the Ferrari as a 488 Spider, which sells for about HK$4 million. The model has a maximum 670 horsepower and can go from zero to 60mph in under three seconds.

In the video, the luxury vehicle is seen heading uphill along Aberdeen Reservoir Road before turning to the right onto Yue Kwong Road and promptly hitting the signs.

Photos from the scene showed the front of the car badly damaged, with the signs wedged into it.

Police said no one was injured in the accident. – SCMP
