Kuala Lumpur
– UMNO should continue to convince the people that UMNO is a party of the future, and not a party of yesteryear, said UMNO Youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said this could be done by showing UMNO is fresh in its approach and in its offer to the progressive Malays as what (Aspirasi Melayu Johor) was brought to the fore by Johor UMNO  .

“However. the clearest and easiest proof which we can show that we are fresh is by the type of candidates we field,” he said in his policy speech at the UMNO Youth assembly, held in conjunction with the party’s annual general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre, here, today.

Khairy said every possible effort must be made to bring the Malays back to choosing UMNO as the main party, which would forever protect them and Malaysians in general.

He also stressed on the importance of the Malays remaining united without compromise or face the consequence of losing power due to infighting.

“Are we willing to see a race on their knees in their own land, who inherit UMNO which is just a footnote? The moment the Malays lose their influence because of infighting and squabbles, we lose the hope and future of our people,” he said.

On the question of why the people should vote for Barisan Nasional, Khairy said misplaced nostalgia and false hopes brought by the opposition had no real equivalence to the real transformation brought by BN.

“Let us instil confidence in the people that UMNO is the only choice; concerned for the people and capable of running the country – UMNO is best to lead and steer Malaysia to face anything that comes its way,” he said.

This year’s UMNO Youth, Wanita and Puteri assemblies were simultaneously opened by Deputy Prime Minister and party vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at PWTC last night.
