UAE Foreign Minister calls on Najib
Putrajaya – United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Sheikh Abdullah Zayed Al-Nahyan paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at his office here today.
Sheikh Abdullah arrived at the Putra Perdana building at 3.40 pm and met with Najib for about 30 minutes.
Minister with Special Functions in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, who is also Defence Minister, also attended the meeting.
Sheikh Abdullah, who was accompanied by several of his ministry officials, is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia from yesterday.
A Wisma Putra statement said the visit would provide an opportunity for both sides to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on issues of mutual respect.
It said the UAE was the leading trade partner of Malaysia in West Asia. It said that from January to September this year, total bilateral trade grew by 24 per cent to RM19.98 billion, compared with RM16.11 billion in the same period last year.
The total trade volume between Malaysia and the UAE in 2016 was RMM22.27 billion, with total exports at RM12.58 billion and imports at RM9.69 billion, the statement said. – Bernama
