SHAH ALAM  –  An Indonesian woman wept uncontrollably after she was sentenced to death by the High Court yesterday for trafficking in drugs.

Angelica Bennet, 28, a vegetable seller, buried her face in her hands and cried after judge Datuk Rahim Uda found her guilty of trafficking in 1,903gm of heroin and monoacetylmorphines.

Bennet, from Jakarta, was alleged to have committed the offence at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s arrival hall at 8am on Sept 14, 2009.

Rahim said he found the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case.

A total of seven witnesses testified in the trial.

DPP Mohd Nordin Ismail prosecuted while counsel Jayaprakash Rao represented Bennet.
