GEORGE TOWN  –  Six detainees hijacked a police vehicle they were in and escaped from the Butterworth Court complex compound on Monday morning.

The men were believed to be chain-cuffed and were being taken to court to face charges for various offences

Police sources said the vehicle, however, skidded off the road at Jalan Paya Tok Akil in Tasik Gelugor.

State exco member Phee Boon Poh said the group was now believed to be hiding in an oil palm plantation in Tasek Gelugor.

A police spokesman said state police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi was heading to the scene.

Abdul Rahim and Seberang Prai Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Abd Rahman Ibrahim could not be reached for comments.  –  The Star
