Datuk Seri Hishammuddin, Minister of Home Affairs today described the close cooperation between the police and the community specially with youths is as an important factor to reduce the crime rate in the Selangor.

Hishamuddin said apart from the efforts of police and other parties, the role of the community is equally important.

“A strong bond between police and the community can deter criminals. Although there have been serious crimes committed lately, we should be proud and grateful as Malaysia is now peaceful and secure enough compared to other countries,” he stressed.

He said in an effort to reduce Crime Nationwide, the Ministry and the Police focus on Schools, Crime hotspot and Shopping complex “We are now focusing on these areas and working holistically to reduce the Crime rates,”

He also stressed that the police welcome good working relationship and cooperation from the members of the public, including the contribution of ideas lending improvement to police work.

Hishammuddin said, would reciprocate by going down to the people to listen to their problems. He expressed belief that if the people could co-exist harmoniously and work together for a common cause the state’s crime rate could be significantly reduced.

“Statements by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as by foreign correspondents affirming Malaysia as one of the safest countries in South-East Asia has certainly helped to boost our confidence,” Hishammuddin said at a Special Meeting with Selangor Youth MIC Chief Shanker Raj Ayanger and his Secretary Kajendran on the Crime Prevention meeting in Selangor held at the Ministry of Home Affairs office today.

Shanker said “There are too many violent crimes affecting women and children to the extent of raising concern among the public. “So, it is only right that the political party involved working with the PDRM to formulate the best mechanism to solve the problems,”.

Shanker also express his dissapoinment over the Opposition Parties is always harping on the crime rate in the country to erode the people’s confidence in BN government. He said the Opposition Parties took advantage of issues which were of concern to the people, especially on the Crime rate, for their political mileage.

Shanker also said in an interview with The Kuala Lumpur Post after the metting with the Home Affairs Minister , PDRM must present constructive, positive proposals and plans, with strong execution plans to ensure the rakyat understand and are convinced to close ranks and walk hand in hand towards a better Malaysia. Without the participation by the rakyat, there is no way Crime can be eliminated.

According to Shanker, Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin announced on Saturday 21st July 2012 on the setting up of a special committee to handle victims of kidnap and violent crimes, particularly involving children and women.
