Policeman arrested for robbery
KUALA TERENGGANU, June 12, 2012: A policeman and three youths here have been arrested for robbing six Indonesian construction workers.
The policeman, an auxiliary constable, had acted as the getaway car driver during the robbery at a kongsi in Jalan Jakar, Kemaman at 4am on Saturday.
State CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said the workers were sleeping when they were awakened by three people, one wearing a police vest, claiming to be from the anti-narcotics branch.
He said the three men ordered the labourers, aged in their 20s to 40s, to hand over their passports and get out of the house.
“After they exited the house, two men rushed into a room and seized a bag containing RM400 cash,” he said yesterday. “They escaped in a car driven by the constable. However, one of the victims noted the car’s registration number and lodged a report at the Kemaman police station,” he said.
Manoharan said police arrested the three youths, aged between 18 and 20, at a restaurant in Cukai Utama at 6.45pm on Saturday. They led to the arrest of the 27-year-old policeman attached to the Cukai police station.
The four have been remanded for four days. — Bernama
