Parents charged – two years and nine months, was killed in a suspected exorcism ritual
BUTTERWORTH: Seven people were charged at the Sessions Court here in connection with the death of a toddler during a suspected exorcism ritual in Taman Bukit Minyak near Bukit Mertajam on Aug 5.
They, including the child’s parents, were charged under section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence.
The court set bail at RM4,000 each and fixed Sept 13 for mention.
According to news reports, the girl, aged two years and nine months, was killed in a suspected exorcism ritual by members of her family and their Indonesian maid, who believed she was possessed by evil spirits and they allegedly piled up on her.
At the same court, the child’s parents were also charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for exposing the child to physical injuries.
The court set bail at RM4,000 each.
However, their Indonesian maid, 39, was not charged but became a prosecution witness.
