The number of organ donors in Malaysia is declining with a drastic drop recorded within three years, an indication of low public awareness on the matter.

Pahang Health deputy director Dr Rohaya A Rahman said a total of 71 organ donors were recorded in 2015 and the number declined to 39 organ donors in 2016.

“More worrying, for this year there are only 18 organ donors recorded from January to Sept 30,” she said in the state-level Organ Donors Awareness Week programme, at the Pekan Square, here today.

The event was officiated by Peramu Jaya assemblyman Datuk Seri Sh Mohd Puzi Sh Ali.

However, Dr Rohaya did not reveal the number of organ donors in Pahang during the period. – Bernama
