No need party flags – Nik Aziz
KOTA BARU: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is in favour of elections in the country being held without the use of flags belonging to political parties during the campaign period.
He said putting up of party flags would only pollute the environment and became an eyesore, especially with the presence of worn out flags and broken flag poles, along the roads.
Nik Aziz, who is Kelantan Menteri Besar said this when asked to comment on elections in Thailand where no flags of political parties could be seen strung across, and along streets, during the campaign period.
“I agree with how the campaign is held in Thailand where political parties are not allowed to hang party flags during the election campaign period,” he told reporters after launching the ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ campaign, held in conjunction with the coming 55th Merdeka Day celebration, at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here last night.
Also present at the function was International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. — BERNAMA
