Nhaveen murder
George Town – The lawyer who represented four of the five suspects in T. Nhaveen’s murder is no longer acting for them.

V. Parthipan said when contacted that he had not received new instructions from his clients.

“Now that it is going to be a murder case, it is more serious. So at the moment, I am not acting for them,” he said yesterday. The fifth suspect was unrepresented.

Parthipan was also not present at a magistrate’s court yesterday when two of the suspects were remanded over a separate case.

A packed courthouse awaited them. As soon as people knew the suspects would be brought there, they thronged the vicinity from 9am to get a glimpse of them.

The suspects, aged 16 and 17, arrived at 11.25am. They lifted their orange lock-up shirts and bowed their heads to hide their faces.

Police were seeking a remand order so the suspects could shed light on the alleged extortion and beating of another 19-year-old youth, who made a police report on May 5 but withdrew it three hours later.

Deputy magistrate’s court registrar Ahmad Tajudin Zain issued each suspect with a four-day remand order until Monday. – The Star
