Musa upset with Robert Phang – threatens to sue
KUALA LUMPUR: Newly-formed Malaysian Crime Watch Group (MyWatch)’s patron Tan Sri Musa Hassan rubbished allegations made by Tan Sri Robert Phang stating the group is closely linked to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and underground triads.
Musa, who is the former Inspector-General of Police, said Phang’s allegations were baseless and gives him three days to either furnish proof of his allegations or makea public apology to MyWatch.
Failing which, Musa added, MyWatch will sue Phang.
Musa, who was the country’s top cop from 2006 to 2010, claimed that Phang held grudges against him after he refused to accept Phang’s offer to be his advisor.
“During my tenure as the IGP, he always come up to me and offered himself to be my advisor. I refused, wondering why do I need an advisor when I’m still able to think for myself?” said Musa.
At the press conference, Musa was flanked by MyWatch’s chief R Sri Sanjeevan and advisor S Gobi Krishnan, both PKR men.
Prior to this, Phang had accused the NGO of being bankrolled by PKR, and at the same time, lambasted the party for being close with Musa, whom he alleged is one of the key-players masterminding the downfall of the party’s de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Phang, who is also chairman of the Social Care Foundation, said that PKR is lacking in principles after the opposition party had engaged with Musa to attack Barisan Nasional (BN).
“If Musa is backed by PKR then I must express my utmost disappointment that PKR appears to be a desperate party,” Phang had reportedly said.
Implying that Phang is not sincere enough, Musa had further claimed that, a few months before he retired, Phang was involved in a large-scale communication project in PDRM.
According to Musa, the project was not completed and the officer in-charge refused to commission the project, resulting to a stage where the latter was transferred from the department.
Responding to allegations made by his former officer Datuk Ramli Yusuff, that Musa had abused his powers as well during his tenure, the latter just smiled and claimed that Ramli is trying to portray him (Musa) as the culprit in the police force.
Musa suggested that Ramli, who is the former Police Director Commercial Criminal Investigation, is the one that should be investigated after the latter allegedly owns 52 assets including houses, condominiums and other valuable properties.
Blogger Big Dog had revealed that Ramli’s position as a civil servant is highly questionable after the latter allegedly owns properties, bank accounts and shares of corporations that amounted to RM16 million, Mole reported.
Listing all the properties believed to be Ramli’s, the blogger further wrote: “What is interesting how could someone afford all these when his last gross income as a JUSA B civil servant and wifey’s combined only at RM18,000.00 per month?”.
“He is the ‘White Knight’ of PDRM”, dry sarcasm by former IGP Tan Srì Musa Hassan as he smirked when asked to comment about former CCID Ramli Yusuff ‘s recent statement about Musa “Abusing his powers”.
On a separate issue, Musa agreed to a question that the meddling on police investigations of a few high profile cases was not only apparent during the current Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein and his predecessor Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, but also during Anwar’s tenure as the Deputy Prime Minister.
During a press conference last week, Musa admitted that Anwar, who is the current Opposition Leader, had asked him to report directly to the latter on an investigation on the controversial book ’50 Dalil Kenapa Anwar Ibrahim Tak Boleh Menjadi Perdana Menteri’.
“During the earlier stage of the investigations, Anwar told me to come to his house every night to update him about the investigation,” Musa had reporterdly said, adding that he refused to do so in order to keep the professionalism and integrity of the police force.
Blogger Datuk Ahirudin Attan also wrote about Phang being in the limelight along with Ramli, both attacking Musa.
“Musa and Ramli are what I called sworn enemies. Rosli (Ramli’s lawyer) is suing a string of people, including the Malaysian Government.”
“Robert Phang quit the MACC after blogs accused him of trying to bribe the former Home Ministry’s secretary-general, which he had denied vehemently.”
“The other dude whom he named in the SD – the Attorney-General Gani Patail – can be linked to all the above.”
“Robert Phang’s SD is not a coincidence. It was calculated. But to do what?”
