Muhaizar bags first marathon medal for Malaysia in 44 years

– Winning the bronze medal is as good as the gold, for Malaysian athlete Muhaizar Mohamad who finished the 42.2km (km) marathon run here.

Muhaizar said he was grateful for being the first Malaysian athlete to win the medal at the SEA Games in the sports in 44 years.

“Alhamdulillah, I am very proud of winning the bronze medal after Malaysians have been trying to do so for more than 44 years.

“I am also grateful to my wife, parents, family and trainers for their support, that made the medal possible today,” he said when met by reporters after completing the run with an official time of 2 hour: 31 minutes: 52 seconds here.

SEA Games 2015 gold medallist, Singaporean Soh Rui Yong finished first with 2:29:27, followed by Indonesian Agus Prayogo with 2:31:20.
