GEORGE TOWN  –  The DAP has lodged a police report against Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi for alleging that the party planned to print and distribute 100,000 Bahasa Malaysia Bibles to win votes in the coming general election.

The report, lodged by assistant national publicity secretary Zairil Khir Johari, was also made against three dailies (Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian and New Straits Times) which published the news on Tuesday.

The news articles stated that DAP is planning to print the Bahasa Malaysia Bibles with the word “Allah” in them, which will then be distributed to several states including Kedah and Kelantan.

Zairil, who spoke to reporters from The Sun Daily after lodging the report at the Georgetown District Police headquarters here yesterday afternoon, said that the allegations were defamatory.

He also claimed that it would instigate racial and religious sentiments among people and instill hate among Muslims towards DAP.

“The claims made by Mohd Puad which were published in the three newspapers are not true and are senseless,” he said.

He also said that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had stated that DAP is not aligned with any religion.

“The party does not have the financial means or capability to print all these Bibles,” Zairil said.

He added that the police report was made because Mohd Puad did not retract his statement, and added that the party might consider taking legal action against him and the newspaper companies.
