– MIC will field more young leaders as candidates in the 14th general election, says party president Dr S. Subramaniam.

He said MIC had submitted a list of potential candidates for GE14 to Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak.

“After the prime minister has determined the suitable candidates, the final list will be submitted to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for screening. This time, there are more younger candidates on the list.

“I am confident in the decision of the prime minister and BN leadership in this matter,” he said after a Deepavali dinner organised by Negri Sembilan MIC in Seremban last night.

Present were Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar and state BN chairman Mohamad Hasan, MIC Information chief V.S. Mogan and state MIC liaison chairman L.  Manickam.

Subramaniam, who is also health minister, said he was confident that the party would recapture the Port Dickson state seat and Teluk Kemang parliamentary seat as well as retain the Jeram Padang state seat in GE14.

“We are targeting at least 65% support from Indian voters in these three areas. I am confident we can win the Port Dickson and Teluk Kemang seats because we have resolved all the issues there in terms of households, schools and temples. We can also retain the Jeram Padang state seat.”

In Negri Sembilan in the last general election, MIC won only the Jeram Padang state seat, represented by Manickam, with a majority of 2,691 votes. It lost Port Dickson and Teluk Kemang to PKR. – Bernama
