MACC probes FIC purchase of hotel in London
Putrajaya – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said today it has opened an investigation into the purchase of a four-star hotel in Kensington, London, by Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) between 2013 and 2015.
Based on information from a preliminary investigation, FIC is believed to have bought the hotel at much higher than the original price, resulting in FIC losing millions of ringgit, it said in a statement.
“A detailed investigation will be conducted to determine whether there was corruption and abuse of power in the purchase of the hotel,” it said.
The MACC said its probe team had taken documents pertaining to the purchase of the hotel and was in the process of evaluating and reviewing the information obtained.
It also said that several key witnesses would be called up soon to have their statements recorded to obtain information and solid evidence before further action was taken.
The directive to open the investigation was issued by MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad after MACC obtained fresh information on the purchase of the hotel, it said. – Bernama
