Khairul, Jonathan book tickets to 100m final

– Malaysian sprint sensation Khairul Hafiz Jantan virtually jogged into the final of the men’s 100m final during the second semifinal at the National Stadium here, but still managed to clock 10.34s.

He would be joined by Sarawakian Jonathan Nyepa who clocked 10.60s in the first semifinal that was won by defending champion Eric Cray from the Philippines with a time of 10.58s.

Also in the final are Jirapong Meenapra from Thailand, winner of the gold medal at the 2013 edition in Myanmar, after clocking 10.46s, Iswandi from Indonesia (10.56s) and Kritsada Namsuwan from Thailand (10.64s).

Two Malaysian women also qualified for the final, namely Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli and Siti Fatimah Mohamad who clocked 11.61s and 11.80s in the first and second semifinals respectively.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s Shanti Pereira with a time of 11.73s, Le Tu Chinh (11.49s), Le Thi Mong Tuyen (11.82s) from Vietnam and Supawan Thipat from Thailand (11.87s) make up the final line up.

The women’s final is scheduled at 9.30pm while the much awaited men’s final is on at 9.40pm. – Bernama
