KUALA TERENGGANU: The boy responsible for impregnating the 16-year-old girl who put her dead newborn baby girl in a knapsack has been nabbed.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm K. Manoharan said police detained the 19-year-old suspect at his home in Cherang Guling, Marang at 4am on Saturday.

“We managed to get the vital information from the girl…we wasted no time in detaining the suspect.

“The suspect has been remanded until July 13 to facilitate investigations into the baby dumping incident,” he said when contacted Saturday.

He added initial investigations revealed the boy and the girl were not a couple but had casual sex twice last year.

“Upon interrogation, both of them admitted not being a couple but had sex only twice.

“We will investigate further to ascertain whether the boy is involved in other crimes as well,” he said.

It was previously reported that the schoolgirl had asked her unwitting classmate to hold the schoolbag for 17 hours.

She had handed her the bag shortly after giving birth to the baby girl in the school’s hostel at about 1am on Tuesday.

Doctors found out about the birth when she sought medical treatment at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here, complaining of abdominal pains.

Post-mortem showed that the baby was successfully delivered, but suffered bruises on the head and had water in the lungs. – Asia News Networks
