DAP has no intergrity and capability to rule Malaysia – Dr M
PETALING JAYA – Having botched its own party election, DAP has proven itself incapable of steering the nation, said several Barisan Nasional leaders, with one even calling the new polls results a fraud.
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday that if the party could not even tabulate the votes in its own election, it should not aspire to form the government.
Dr Mahathir spoke to reporters at his office at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.
Penang Barisan publicity bureau head Tan Cheng Liang said the central executive committee election fiasco last month was the biggest joke of the year.
“If they cannot even handle the counting of votes from several thousand delegates, how can they expect to chart the future of 27 million Malaysians?” she asked at a press conference at her office in Penang.
The error in the Dec 12 election saw an aide to party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Zairil Khir Johari, moved from the 39th position to 20th, the last spot in the CEC, and grassroots activist Vincent Wu, who was initially slotted at the sixth spot, bumped to the 26th position.
Tan said the alleged duplication of votes was unacceptable as there should not have been any “cut and paste” in the tabulation of the results in the first place.
Penang Barisan Psy-War Committee chairman Datuk Loga Bala Mohan said that in the interest of transparency, accountability and competency, the party should call for a fresh election.
“The whole CEC should take responsibility and resign so fresh polls could be called,” he said in Penang.
Meanwhile in Kuala Lumpur, MIC central working committee member S. Vell Paari said that the “error” was actually fraud initiated to garner the Malay votes, especially in Penang as not a single Malay candidate made it into the CEC.
“This is election gymnastic aimed at hoodwinking the people to support them,” he said. – The Star
