JOHOR BARU: A police officer was shot four times and is now fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Hospital Sultanah Aminah here.

The constable, 24, from Sarawak was shot at around 4am at a pub in Nusa Bestari while watching the live telecast of the Euro Cup 2012 finals between Italy and Spain.

It is learnt that the policeman was in the pub with another colleague to watch the match with several friends.

Sources said that the colleague, also a policeman, left half-way saying that he was sleepy while the victim continued to have some drinks.

The source said that there was an argument between the victim and his friend after his team, Italy, started losing the match.

The cop took out his pistol but the friend grabbed the gun and shot him repeatedly in the abdomen.

The other patrons alerted the police who called the paramedics; as The Star reported.

The suspect is believed to have surrendered to the police and has since been remanded to assist in investigations.

Nusajaya OCPD Supt Noor Hashim Mohamed confirmed the case and said that police arrived at the scene minutes later.

“We arrested the shooter aged in his 20’s and also called the paramedics who rushed the constable to the hospital.

“He is currently in a coma,” he said.

He added that the case has been classified under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder
