KUALA LUMPUR, June 7, 2012: A Chinese national was jailed 12 months for kicking a policeman on duty in the leg last year.

Wu Rui Rong, 60, from Hunan, China, had kicked Kpl Megat Mohd Zainan Megat Adnan with his left leg with the intention of preventing the policeman from carrying out his duties.

Wu committed the offence at Dataran Merdeka in Jalan Raja here at 9.20am on July 13 2011.

He was charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code (Using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and was liable to be jailed up to two years and fined or both.

Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin said the defence failed to raise any reasonable doubts in the prosecution’s case.

DPP S. Malini Anne told the court Wu had resorted to the action after the policeman wanted to arrest him for distributing leaflets and books about political happenings in China to members of the public.

Wu was allowed a stay of the sentence, which was to take effect today. – Bernama
