Brothers drowned

KAJANG (Dec 13, 2012)  –  A fishing trip turned into a tragedy for two brothers when they drowned at an old mining pool near a river in Batu 13, Kampung Raya here at about 4pm yesterday.

According to their brother-in-law who was interviewed by The Sun, Mohd Arif Abu Tamar, 27, the two brothers, Mohammad Tarmizi Azhari, 13, and his elder brother Mohammad Syawal Azhari, 17 had gone to the old mining pool to fish with seven other friends.

“According to their friends, Tarmizi drowned while he was swimming in the pool while Syawal, who jumped in to rescue him, also drowned,” he said at the location.

The father of the victims, Azhari Mohd Zain, 49, said he was at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to fetch his daughter who arrived from Kuala Terengganu, when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, according to the Kajang Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Mohd Arif Kassim, the search and rescue operation that started at about 4.30pm had to be called off at 8.30pm due to heavy rain and failing lights.

Kajang police chief ACP Ab Rashid Ab Wahab when contacted by Bernama said the operation would continue Thursday morning.
