KUALA LUMPUR – (Bernama) — The government is considering a proposal to distribute the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) for the second time, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah said today.

He said this in response to a question from Senator Datuk Syed Ibrahim Kader in the Dewan Negara.

On June 7, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reportedly suggested to the Cabinet that the government give a second round of the BR1M to the people.

Ahmad Husni said the BR1M was distributed to 4.33 million households, involving a government allocation of almost RM2.16 billion. A sum of RM500 was given to each family with a household monthly income of RM3,000 or less.

“The success of the programme stems from the strengthening of the country’s economy and the government’s ability to manage the country’s finances well as well as always ensuring that revenue was spent prudently to give benefits and returns to the people,” he said.

Ahmad Husni said recipients of the BR1M could still redeem their vouchers as its validity period had been extended to July 31.

The period of validity of the cash voucher was previously up to April 15 and it could be redeemed at counters of any branch of Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), CIMB Bank or Maybank in the country. -Perak Today
