A nine-year-old boy lost his left leg in a bomb explosion while playing with friends in Narathiwat’s Rangae district on Sunday morning.

Pol Lt Santhiti Thongchan, the police district duty officer, said he was informed of the incident at about 10.40am.

Police learned from an investigation that Muhamad Safik Late, 9, and two friends were walking from Ban Bangoto along Tanyongmas-Dusongyo road in tambon Bango Sate in Rangae district to a shop to buy snacks. Muhamad stepped on a bomb buried on one side of the road.

The boy’s left leg was severed in the explosion. His two friends were not hurt.

Earlier on the same day, two men were shot to death in Chanae district of Narathiwat.

Police said while Riskan Chemae, 27, and Pidi Mare, 17, were travelling in a pickup truck from a tea shop at Ban Buetae heading for Dusongyo market, their vehicle was stopped by a group of armed men at a bridge.

They were forced to take off their shirts and had their hands tied behind their backs. The armed men then shot both of them in the head before leaving the scene. – BangkokPost
