KOTA BARU – The action of certain quarters in stepping on pictures of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been described as an extreme act to sow hatred against the national leader.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said yesterday the police would investigate the matter and refer it to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

“These actions are by certain parties to raise emotions.

“It will lead to irrational actions and are aimed at exploiting people into being victims of hate politics,” said Hishammuddin, who is also Umno vice-president, after opening the Pengkalan Chepa Umno division delegates meeting here yesterday.

Hishammuddin said such matters should be handled carefully and speedily so that they would not be exploited by certain parties.

Apart from stepping on the pictures at the “Himpunan Janji Bersih” at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur on the eve of the 55th Merdeka Day, there were also participants who carried “new flags”, a move described by some as not respecting the sovereignty of the country.

Hishammuddin said the acts of these groups were worrying as they could lead to riots and the government would not compromise on the nation’s security. – Asiaone
