Band of criminals busted
KOTA KINABALU (Dec 14, 2012): Police have crippled a gang of burglars linked to a spate of house break-ins in the city, with the arrest of three suspects, including a couple.
They were picked up in a raid on a rented house in Taman Maya, Tanjung Aru on Dec 5.
Initial police investigations revealed the gang had been active since Nov 23, amassing loot worth about RM180,000 in jewellery and valuables.
Kota Kinabalu District police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun said police were in the midst of tracking down two accomplices of the suspects, believed to have gone into hiding here.
He told a news conference yesterday, the loot comprised of gold necklaces, rings, musical instruments, and an assortment of wrist-watches and electrical goods.
Police also seized a four-wheel drive vehicle which was used during the break-ins.
In a separate case, police detained five men, including a security guard of a cyber gambling premise, during an operation to combat cyber gambling activities in the city.
Jauteh said the suspects, aged between 18 and 35, were picked up in the operation, codenamed ‘Ops Dadu’.
He said cyber gambling premises in Telipok, Kepayan, Tanjung Aru and Jalan Gaya were raided in the operation, resulting in the seizure of 67 computer sets, 11 slot machines and RM1,700. – Bernama
