Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim’s PKR party will on Monday night launch a lecture and tour series themed the ‘People’s Independence: Post Bersih 3.0’ to celebrate the outstandingly successful April 28 rally for free and fair polls.

The Bersih rally was attended by hundreds of thousands of Malaysians in Kuala Lumpur, other states, as well as in 71 cities in 29 countries around the world.

Important announcement

Anwar is also expected to make an important announcement regarding the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Election Commission, both of whom have refused to resign despite being exposed as members of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s party.

“Anwar will make the announcement this Monday,” PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli told Malaysia Chronicle.

Rafizie declined to give any hints, but whatever new revelation or decision Anwar and the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition makes, it is bound to be aimed at pressuring both the EC chief Abdul Aziz Yusof and his deputy Wan Ahmad Wan Omar into quitting.

Few Malaysians believe the EC top duo – being Umno members – can be neutral in their duties and are likely to side their own party in any decision regarding the outcome of the coming 13th general election.

Getting the facts right

Anwar and other senior Pakatan leaders from PAS and DAP will kick off the PKR lecture series on May 7, at the Kampung Baru Padang, Batu Caves, Gombak at 9 pm.

“The Bersih 3.0 rally was a great success and landmark occasion that we must celebrate with the people. Unfortunately, some quarters are trying to deny the people of their triumph by starting a blame game,” said Rafizi.

“We intend to put the story right in our lecture tour and we plan to go all over Malaysia to all the kampungs, estates and new villages to tell the people what really happened. We will also take the opportunity to bring along our message of reform and to explain further what democracy and the people’s rights is all about.”
