KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri G Palanivel has expressed disappointment over a remark by an MP that Bersih 3.0 co-chairman Datuk Ambiga should be hanged for treason.

Such remarks, he said, would hamper the Prime Minister’s efforts to win Indian voters’ trust in Barisan Nasional.

“It is not right to say that Datuk Ambiga should be hanged. Why is Datuk Ambiga made a scapegoat?

“The Prime Minister and other Barisan leaders should put a stop to this matter. Such remarks will affect Indian voters who are turning towards Barisan now,” he said in a statement Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the DAP said it would lodge police reports against Sri Gading MP Datuk Mohamad Aziz for, after he reportedly called in Parliament for Ambiga to be hanged for treason.

DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng said the remarks were seditious and unbecoming of an MP.

“No MP has ever called for someone to be hanged.

“The insults were directed at her because she is an easy target, a woman, an Indian and a Hindu,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby, as reported in The Star.

On Tuesday, while debating the Supplementary Supply Bill, Mohamad Aziz said Ambiga should be hanged for the “treasonous act” of organising the April 28 Bersih 3.0 demonstration.

He compared her to the militant Al-Ma’unah group, whose leader were sentenced to death for treason for leading a raid on two army camps, and stealing ammunition and weapons, in 2000.
