Actor Kamal Hassan in town
KUALA LUMPUR – Acclaimed Indian actor Kamal Hassan is currently in town promoting his upcoming big-budget thriller Vishwaroopam.
Written, directed and produced by the 58-year-old thespian, who also stars in it, the film is already making waves with its slick trailer that features multiple exotic locations and what appears to be a terrorism plot.
Speaking at a press conference here late Saturday, Kamal described the movie as one of the biggest ones in his career thus far, with a budget of roughly RM53,300,000.
“It’s an international story, and we wanted to a film that looks excellent. If we’ve met that international benchmark, we’ve done our jobs,” said the four-time Indian National Film Award winner and holder of India’s prestigious Padma Shri title.
The film also chalks up a number of achievements, such as being one of the first few films in the world to be equipped with the Auro 3D sound format, and the first Indian film to be releasing 3,000 prints worldwide.
Also attending the press conference was debutante actress Pooja Kumar, who alongside Rahul Bose and Andrea Jeremiah, plays a key role in Vishwaroopam.
Vishwaroopam is slated to open on Jan 11 next year.
Kamal also made a guest appearance at the Kuala Lumpur International Indian Music Festival (KLIMF) at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil Saturday night, which featured South Indian music director Yuvan Shankar Raja.
According to The Star, The crowd was thrilled when Kamal not only screened two trailers for Vishwaroopam, but also sang with Yuvan’s father, music maestro Ilaya Raja.
