4 negative effects of milk
Milk has always been known to be beneficial for your health. However, like other things, besides good sides, milk has bad sides. This article will show you how milk can negatively affect the human’s body.

Raw milk is dangerous

Some people think that pasteurization can cause bad effects on milk and raw milk is better ( they believe it has more nutrients) than the pasteurized milk. Pasteurization is a process in which special technique is used to kill unhealthy germs. Raw milk is milk that has not been pasteurized. It still contains small but harmful germs such as viruses, bacteria, and parasites. These germs may not affect the way milk looks, tastes, or smells.

However, raw milk can make you sick or even kill you. This means you may experience stomachache, diarrhea, vomiting, kidney failure, or chronic diseases. Infants, children, older adults, pregnant women and people with weakened immune system (those with cancer or HIV) are more likely to have these problems. Even you are healthy, you can still get sick from raw milk if it is contaminated with unhealthy germs.

Therefore, never drink raw milk. All types of raw milk are not safe. Choose milk and milk products that are labeled ‘pasteurized’.

Lactose intolerance makes drinking milk uncomfortable

Lactose intolerance is a health condition in which your body reacts negatively to milk or milk products. It is a digestive system disorder. Symptoms of lactose intolerance usually appear from 30 minutes to 2 hours after you use milk products; including gas, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal bloating.

You may find it easier to digest buttermilk, cheese, yogurt, goat’s milk, ice cream, milkshake, lactose-free milk and milk products, or soy milk. You can also ease the symptoms of lactose intolerance by gradually increase intake of milk.

Milk is affected by how the animals are raised

Milk can be affected by how the farmers raise the animals. If the cow is treated with antibiotics, these drugs can pass through milk, causing antibiotic-resistance.

The animals’ well-being, environment, manage practices and diet can affect the composition and quality of milk.

Although you are healthy and the milk is pasteurized, you can still be harmed. Thus, check the milk products’ origin carefully before you buy.

Drinking too much milk can contribute to certain diseases

Milk is a good source of vitamin D, calcium and potassium. Drinking too much milk, however, can overly increase potassium intake leading to hypertension.

Some studies have shown that too much milk can lead to fatal prostate cancer and ovarian cancer. Other research has pointed out that drinking 3 glasses of milk or more every single day can double your risk of cardiovascular disease. Plus, excessive milk drinking can increase your risk of fractures.

Milk also provides lots of calories, thus, too much milk can affect your weight.

Although milk can cause some negative effects on your health, it is generally good. You should get to know your condition and choose the right strategy of drinking milk to prevent side effects.
