ALOR SETAR  –  Twenty-eight babies were born here and in Sungai Petani today on the special date 12-12-12, including a baby boy who was born in a car with his nine-month pregnant aunt acting as the midwife.

When met at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here, his mother, Siti Hajar Ibrahim, 28, said she was due to give birth on Dec 23, but had started to feel maternal pain at around midnight yesterday and asked her husband, brother and sister-in-law to take her to the hospital.

She said they were just 100 metres away from the hospital when she gave birth to her baby with the help of her sister-in-law as the midwife.

“I never thought he would come out so quickly. I will never forget this experience for the rest of my life and I hope that my baby will grow up fine,” said the proud mother of the boy who was born at 4.55am weighing 3.7kg.

She said the baby had been put under special observation but was in good condition and that both of them were expected to be discharged from the hospital later today.

A young mother, Nor Murni Nadia Mohd Noor, 19, also did not expect her second child would be among the babies born on the special date.

In fact, she said she was the first mother who delivered her baby at the hospital on the special date of 12-12-12 as her baby was born exactly at 12.01am.

“The doctor said my due date is tomorrow, but my baby obviously does not agree and wants to come out a day early. Either way, I’m grateful and I hope she will be a good and faithful daughter,” she said.

Meanwhile, HSB director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie said as at noon, 10 babies, comprising five boys and five girls, had been delivered at the hospital.

“Nine of them were born through natural births, while one was born through a caesarean section,” she said.

In Sungai Petani, 18 babies were born at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH), 14 of who were girls, between 12.01am and 3pm today.

HSAH director Dr Idris Ahmad said 14 of the babies were Malays, one Chinese, two Indians, and another of Chinese national, weighing between 2.47kg and 3.96kg.

Mohd Shukri Talib and his wife, Suzana Che Ad, from Kuala Ketil, Baling, said they were grateful to have been blessed with a healthy baby girl on the very special date.

Suzana said she was also happy that her new bundle of joy, weighing 3.01kg was born through natural birth at 2.43pm without much problems.

“I already have a son, so I’m very excited to have a daughter. I just didn’t expect that it will be this easy for us to remember her birthday,” she said.   –  BERNAMA
